The Crowsnest River, considered one of the two best rainbow streams in Alberta, winds its way from Crowsnest Lake near the continental divide untill it meets up with the Oldman and Castle Rivers in the Oldman River Dam. A mature river that combines the characteristics of a freestone stream with a spring creek. The river downstream of the east Hillcrest bridge is open to angling year round for catch and release and there is usually a significant portion of it ice free. With the Crowsnest Pass's mild winters the mid portion of the river can usually be fished any month of the year. The upper (above Lundbreck Falls) river is home to rainbows and whitefish. Recently the odd brown has been caught east of Hillcrest and there is always the possibility of getting a cutt or brookie upstream of Hillcrest. From the Lundbreck Falls down to the dam the river supports rainbows, whitefish, some browns and a good population of bulls. It is not unheard of to hook into a bull bigger than 30"! |
